Pace - Bringing partners together during pregnancy
Project 4 in UX/UI bootcamp program.
Role: UX/ UI Designer
Duration: 2 weeks
Team: Jasmin Schmitz and Tina Aas
Device: Native iOS App
Tools: Figma, Procreate, Google Forms.
Product: Pregnancy and fetal development tracking
The Topic
Create a tracking app for pregnancy and fetal development for iOS. Our research led us to focus on communication cards as the feature to focus on.
The solution
Based on the research we decided on creating a pregnancy and fetal development app that focused on bringing the partners together. The pregnancy was a difficult period for all of our interviewees and something they all shared was a feeling of not being properly supported or not knowing how to support. Our solution was to create a pregnancy app that was designed for both partners with the extra feature of communication cards. We chose this as a way to get the partner talking about different topics throughout the pregnancy to better understand the other’s needs.
Market research
We identified 9 of the most important and relevant pregnancy apps on the market and downloaded them. After conducting a competitor feature analysis we discovered that they all had the same four basic features;
Tracking (fetal movement, meds, mood..)
Calendar ( Overview of tracking)
Info about baby’s development
Set up of profile ( with due date, name)
Brand analysis
When analysing the brand we tried to identify the values of the companies, and what they portrayed.
Market positioning chart
First we wanted to focus on the father and create an opportunity to be a part of a community, but as our project developed we so did our position. We decided to focus on both partners, we found a need for an app that was gender neutral, that focused on bringing the partners together and providing enough information to both parties.
User Research
We interviewed five people about their experience with pregnancy.
Here are some quotes to summe it up:
“He wanted to know how I was feeling but did not know how to ask me”
“I felt prepared, but then I realized I wasn’t”
“My partner would have given me more emotional support if he had known what to do”
“He wasn’t able to communicate with me on the info he had found”
User Persona
Based on the research we had done and the data we had collected we created a user persona that would represent our main target group.
Value Proposition Canvas
The tool helped us to take the decision to work more on:
Knowledge gain
Communication
Problem Statement
First time fathers need to find a way to access all the relevant information regarding pregnancies because their partner needs to be able to rely on them.
MOSCOW Method
Then we dott voted on the features and it was at this point we decided that our happy path would be the communication cards.
Minimum Viable Product (MVP Statement)
The goal of the XX app, at the bare minimum, is for first time parents to educate themselves and to communicate with each other. By doing this they will both gain communication skills which will prepare them for this next step of their relationship. Therefore, they will be able to better understand each other and communicate their needs.
Ideation & Low- FI Sketches
We did concept testing with five people and we did confirm the concept.
Mid-Fi & Usability testing
We tested the mid-fi prototype with five people and got a lot of valuable feedback, and we changed the wireframes accordingly.
UI Design part
After modifying the mid-fi we moved onto the next phase of the project, the UI part.
Style Tile
Based on the Moodboard we decided on a color pallet and then on the typography
Hi-Fi Prototype
In focusing on creating a neutral and inclusive app we might have gone with colors that ware too cold. The next steps would be to work even more with the color pallet and choose warmer colors.
